From May 20 to May 23, 2014, the Teatrino presents 2 films directed by Riccardo De Cal that explore the relationship between Carlo Scarpa and his city, Venice, through two of his most important projects: the Fondazione Querini Stampalia and the Olivetti store in Piazza San Marco.
The assumption underlying the film Hortus Conclusus (2007, 30') is that cinema is perhaps the best mean to talk about architecture because it offers the possibility of moving in the spaces and of hearing the sounds. It focuses on Carlo Scarpa's work at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia and shows how the architectural elements merge with the natural ones.
The film Genius Loci (2014, 30') focuses on the restoration and reopening of the Olivetti store in Piazza San Marco to document how this symbolic site was preserved. It is where Carlo Scarpa combines his attention to detail with the extreme care in the use and combination of materials. It also represents a unique example in the field of restoration and interior design in the 1950s in Italy as well as abroad.
