Globally renowned architecture and design firm Rockwell Group, in collaboration with the sustainability-focused non-profit Cork Collective, has partnered with the world’s largest cork processor, Corticeira Amorim, to create Casa Cork, an immersive experience set to preview at Milan Design Week 2025.
As visitors explore this remarkable material and its extensive potential, they will be immersed in interiors, furnishings, lighting, and student prototypes crafted almost entirely from cork. The dramatic centrepiece of Casa Cork is a lifelike replica of a monumental cork tree made from reclaimed virgin cork bark, which seamlessly connects a multitude of cork products to this wonder of the natural world. An unfolding journey brings the world of cork to life in a sensory touch gallery; a tactile workshop narrates cork’s origin story and showcases the possibilities for innovation; and, finally, a salon—a welcoming bar and event space—offers visitors wine tastings, meals, and discussions about design and a zero-waste future.
A Multi-Faceted Experience
Casa Cork will feature a range of engaging activities. Live events and discussions will focus on the circular economy and sustainable design. Educational initiatives will highlight the importance of cork recycling and its role in responsible material use. The installation will also showcase innovative cork-based furniture and designs from around the world, demonstrating the material’s adaptability and strength. A dedicated student design competition will spotlight the creativity of emerging designers, offering them a platform to present their groundbreaking concepts.
Visitors will be immersed in a world where cork is central to interiors, furnishings, lighting, and student prototypes. The experience unfolds through a sensory touch gallery that brings cork’s unique properties to life. A workshop space will explore cork’s origins and its potential for innovation, revealing its applications across various industries. The journey culminates in a salon and event space where visitors can partake in wine tastings, shared meals, and discussions about the future of zero-waste design.
Reimagining Cork in Design
Announcing Casa Cork, David Rockwell, Founder & President, Rockwell Group, says: “Rockwell Group has championed interdisciplinary collaboration and not-for-profit work since our founding 40 years ago. We all seek meaningful connections through shared goals. We hope to ignite the design community’s curiosity about this remarkable material with Casa Cork and inspire a deeper exploration of its potential. Craftsmanship is central to design, and we believe this immersive experience will resonate with designers worldwide.”
Antonio Amorim, President & CEO, Corticeira Amorim adds: “At Amorim, we are thrilled to return to FuoriSalone, especially in collaboration with David Rockwell and the Cork Collective. His visionary design showcases cork’s unparalleled sustainability, intricate forms, and exceptional physical properties—attributes that make natural cork invaluable to industries ranging from winemaking to aerospace engineering.”
Cork Collective Student Design Competition
Cork Collective is launching its inaugural Student Design Competition to engage and inspire future designers. The competition invites students to experiment with cork-based innovations. Participants from Parsons School of Design (New York) and Politecnico di Milano will develop concepts in simultaneous spring studio courses. A jury will select six finalists from each school to present their work at Casa Cork.
Talk Series: Conversations on Sustainable Design
Casa Cork’s salon will host live public conversations during Milan Design Week, curated by New York-based design journalist Tiffany Jow. These discussions will feature key figures from Casa Cork along with leading voices in architecture, fashion, food, and design. A complete lineup of speakers and the programme schedule will be announced shortly.
Experience the Future of Sustainable Design
Casa Cork celebrates design, sustainability, and innovation. Through expert craftsmanship and thoughtful programming, the installation reimagines the role of cork in contemporary spaces and demonstrates its transformative potential. |
